Captain Thomas Riversdale Colyer-Fergusson VC, known to his family as Riv, was born in Portman Square, Marylebone on the 18th February 1896 to Thomas Colyer Fergusson and Beatrice Stanley.
Colyer-Fergusson was 21 years old, and an acting captain in the 2nd Battalion, The Northamptonshire Regiment, British Army when performed the deed on 31 July 1917 at Bellewaarde, Belgium which earned him the Victoria Cross. He was shot dead by a sniper that day.
The Portman Estate has sponsored a Westminster Green Plaque in honour and memory of Captain Coyler-Fergusson VC on the 100 year anniversary of his death.
In December, members of The Portman Estate team unveiled the new green plaque, along with Jamie Monckton, a descendent of the Captain, Councillor Karen Scarborough from Westminster City Council, and the Ightham Moat National Trust team (the historic residence of the Colyer-Fergusson family).
