The mental and physical wellbeing of our staff is an essential cornerstone of our organisation’s culture.

We run an extensive wellbeing programme for all our employees and pride ourselves on being an organisation that listens, responds and adapts to people’s needs, requests and suggestions.

The programme focuses on promoting a positive and healthy lifestyle and incorporates the five ways to wellbeing. It offers a calendar of regular art classes, massage sessions and talks by inspirational speakers, often on subjects that extend outside the workplace, including financial wellbeing, nutrition, anxiety and the effects of menopause. Our company culture also embraces wide-ranging social activities, with our in-house social committee planning and delivering an exciting and varied programme of social outings and events throughout the year.

We are also committed to educating and reducing stigma around mental health issues, both in the workplace and at home

We are proud to have multiple Mental Health First Aiders at The Portman Estate.
Like traditional physical first aiders who provide immediate assistance for physical injuries, MHFAiders® provide initial support, encouragement, and signposting of a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other support.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The Portman Estate takes great pride in fostering an inclusive culture and working environment, where everyone feels they belong and are genuinely valued.
In 2019 we set up our own Equity Diversity and Inclusion Committee to manage, monitor and develop further our policy and initiatives in this area. We are proud to be a member of Real Estate Balance, a campaigning organisation working to improve diversity and inclusion in the real estate industry. We have signed up to their CEO Commitments on Diversity to ensure that property is an inclusive, diverse industry.

Family Care Policy

In 2020 the Diversity and Inclusion Working Group introduced the ‘New Parent's Leave Policy’. This offers 21 weeks' fully paid leave to all employees with 18 months service at The Portman Estate when they become a parent, no matter how they do this.

This policy forms part of a wider ‘Family Care Policy’. Other new initiatives, such as reviewing recruitment processes within the business, are also being introduced. These are all part of our commitment to invest continually in our employees and their wellbeing.
